CAPTAINS flat hotel - captains flat (NSW)
The Captains Flat Hotel is a beautifully preserved 1938 Art Deco landmark nestled in the historic mining town of Captains Flat, just a scenic hour’s drive from Canberra. Steeped in history and charm, the hotel stands as a living tribute to the region’s rich heritage, retaining its period features - including vintage appliances and authentic architectural details - that recently caught the eye of film productions seeking true 1940s atmosphere.
DARKAN HOTEL - DARKAN (WA)
The Darkan Hotel is a proudly community-owned country pub located in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, set on Coalfields Road in the historic township of Darkan. Originally opened in 1906, this iconic venue began life as a traditional hotel and dining room, complete with stables and parlours to welcome travellers and locals alike. It quickly became the heart and social hub of the town, and was significantly expanded in the 1910s and 1960s, reflecting the growth and vibrancy of Darkan through the years.
gladstone hotel - gLAdstone (TAS)
The Gladstone Hotel in Tasmania stands as a symbol of resilience, renewal, and rural spirit. Located in the tiny north-eastern town of Gladstone - once a thriving tin-mining centre - the pub has been given fresh life by owners Cathy and Bob Willis, who bought the derelict building following a personal tragedy. Cathy’s son, Kieren, died in a car accident just before he was due to visit their property in Gladstone.
lake bolac hotel & BRewery - lake bolac (VIC)
The Lake Bolac Hotel and Brewery is a celebrated heritage destination in Western Victoria, offering a unique mix of country hospitality and historical charm for visitors from near and far. Established in 1862, the hotel is housed in a striking bluestone building, originally constructed to serve the region’s early settlers. Today, this beautifully preserved landmark continues to welcome guests with a vibrant local atmosphere and a rich sense of community.
The mucka pub - muckadilla (Qld)
The Mucka Pub in Muckadilla, Queensland, stands as a resilient icon of outback hospitality and community spirit. First built in 1912, this beloved hotel has long been the heart of its small township, welcoming locals and travellers alike with genuine country warmth. The original pub’s legacy survives through several reconstructions, including a major rebuild in 2021 after a devastating fire in 2019, led by passionate locals determined to keep their town alive.
quamby pub - quamby (Qld)
The Quamby Pub in Quamby, Queensland, is a truly iconic outback destination, famed for its resilience and revival amid the red-dust plains between Cloncurry and Normanton. Originally built in the 1860s as a customs house, the building later became a vital stop for Cobb & Co stage coaches, serving both the booming cattle and mining industries of a once-thriving railway village.
royal victoria hotel - beltana (SA)
The Royal Victoria Hotel in Beltana, South Australia, is a storied outback landmark recently reopened after more than 60 years of closure. Originally built in 1879, this large stone hotel once bustled with travellers, mining workers, and railway families as Beltana thrived as a copper mining and railway town in the Flinders Ranges. Its heritage-listed building, with a remarkable 17 rooms and unique architectural quirks, has witnessed Beltana’s transformation from a vital colonial township to a nationally recognised historical area.
silkwood hotel - silkwood (FNQ)
Silkwood, a rural town, is 90 km south-east of Cairns and 25 km south of Innisfail. It was named after a tree-covered hill, which could have had any of several 'silkwood' species native to north Queensland and valued for furniture or building. In all cases the timber displays a silky lustre. The historic non-heritage listed Silkwood Hotel is the sole licensed premises in Silkwood. Built originally in 1927 and re-built and re-opened after a fire in 1938, the hotel still holds most of her old-world charm with updates and refurbishment scattered throughout the building.
tibooburra hotel - tibooburra (NSW)
The Tibooburra Hotel is an elegant two-storey sandstone building on the corner of Briscoe and Wills Street. It is the oldest of the two hotels left remaining in Tibooburra and was built of locally quarried sandstone in 1882. The sandstone was transported to town by horse and cart and then hand-cut and hand- chipped to form the beautiful stone structure which remains today. The hotel would have been used by locals and travellers alike, with Cobb & Co coaches carrying mail and passengers twice a week to the town.
werrimull hotel - werrimull (VIC)
The Werrimull Hotel, proudly known as Victoria’s most outback pub, is a captivating destination offering rugged character and authentic country hospitality in the remote Millewa region, northwest Victoria.
Situated about 80 kilometres southwest of Mildura, this historical hotel is the heart of the tiny township of Werrimull, embraced by vast barley fields and the wide skies of the Mallee.
